Introduction

Today I start my longest ever fast to date, a 60 day juice fast. I am excited to begin this journey as I know it will take me even closer to my goal of being a healthy weight. Whilst I am no stranger to juice fasting, having done 7, 10, & 30 day fasts in the past, I do feel slightly nervous as to whether I will be able to complete a whole 60 days. But if success is purely down to determination, then failing won’t be an option!
Below outlines my 60 day juice fast plan, what I have done to prepare for this fast, along with my goals and motivation.

My 60 Day Juice Fast Plan

  • I am taking 2 weeks off work at the start of this fast, I will then work part time for the remaining 6 weeks.
  • I will drink at least 2.5 litres (85 fl oz) of juice each day at a ratio of 80% vegetables & 20% fruits. Juice will be consumed in 500ml (17 fl oz) portions every 3 hours, totaling 5 servings per day.
  • I will drink at least 2.5 litres of water per day.
  • I won’t be exercising for the first 2 weeks. Following this I will be brisk walking, using an exercise cycle and lifting light weights.
  • I will record my weight and measurements every 10 days.
  • I will keep all receipts and report on the total cost to juice fast at the end of my 60 days.

Preparation

In preparation for this fast, in order to give myself the best possible start, I have limited my consumption of the following over the past 5-7 days.

  • Coffee
  • Dairy
  • Red Meat
  • Bread
  • Processed Foods
  • Alcohol
  • Sugar

I have introduced more fruits & vegetables to my diet, serving them both raw and lightly steamed.

Equipment

Although I own both types of juicer (centrifugal and masticating) for this fast I will use my masticating juicer. I will also use a citrus juicer for making grapefruit and orange juices.

Other equipment I normally use include:

  • Sieve
  • Jugs
  • Sharp Knife
  • Airtight Bottles / Containers (for storing juice)

Shopping List

Here is my starting shopping list for this 60 day fast.

Shopping List For 60 Day Juice Fast

The fridge is actually fairly tame compared to when I normally begin a juice fast. Here I have just purchased the basics in one store, I will research other stores online to find the best deals on my most used vegetables & fruits such as cucumbers, apples, carrots etc. I normally like to shop every 2-3 days to keep everything well stocked.

Weight & Measurements

Here are the details of my weight and measurements

60 day juice fast weight and measurements

I do plan to provide before and after images, in the mean time please bear with me. This is my actual silhouette!

  • Chest 46”
  • Waist 40”
  • Hips 44”
  • Thigh 25”
  • Bicep 14”

My current weight is 200lbs my BMI 30.28 I am classed as ‘Obese’.
My weight loss goal for this 60 day juice fast is: 30lbs which would take me to 170lbs with a BMI of 26.06.
This would leave me just 7lbs away from reaching a ‘Healthy Weight & BMI’.

Motivation

As you will have no doubt realized after seeing my weight & measurements, my main motivation for this 60 day juice fast is weight loss. I turn 40 years old on 1st June 2013, just 16 days following the end of this fast, and want to be as close to a healthy weight as possible by the time my birthday arrives.

Incentive

Whilst just being a healthy weight is incentive enough for me to undergo this fast, I am very lucky to have another which is celebrating my 40th birthday with a 6 night trip to New York! I live in the UK and have been saving up for the best part of 3 years to be able to go on my first ever visit to the USA. I am very excited.

Well that’s about it for this introduction. I plan to document my 60 day juice fast as often as possible, with weight and measurement updates being made every 10 days.

See you on Day 1!

Well I sure learned something here. I used to just drink the juice soon as I made it. Storing it I thought would make it lose it’s integrity, but I can see now I can save myself time and effort by storing them in the fridge. Thanks! Best of luck with your 60 day fast!

      Hi Greg,

Don’t worry I did the exact same on my first ever juice fast which was for 30 days. Now I make 1 litre at a time, drink half straight away and store the other half for later.

The sooner you drink it, the better it is nutrition wise, but unfortunately it’s not always possible to make a fresh juice each time.

Thanks for the good luck message!

Celia, I just found your website via one of your posts on Reboot with Joe. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this. You have wonderful information! I started my first ever juice fast yesterday, April 12 and am shooting for 60 days, at 10 day increments. So I will be finished with this first fast on June 10…6 days from MY 40th birthday! I’ve only just started reading your entries, starting with March 18th. Can’t wait to ready the progress you’ve made!

Also loved the bit you wrote about cleaning the produce, as I was wondering if water was enough or if something should be added. Now I know and will be going with the distilled vinegar.

    Cheers!

Hi Mitravelgal! Thanks for stopping by, much appreciated and thank you for the kind words.

Very best of luck with your juice fast! Do let me know how your getting on and do feel free to ask any questions you may have and I’ll do my best to help.

Your 40th birthday is just 15 days after mine, how do you plan to celebrate?

    Hi Celia,

I have been struggling with weight all my life. Over the past 5 yrs I have lost 100 lbs, through diet and exercise. But January came and things changed. I’m not motivated, I literally have eaten at least one chocolate bar everyday since!!! Anyway I hate living like this. I watched Joe’s documentary and really want to give the juicing a go. What I am trying to find out is the following:

starting with breakfast what juice is best to consume?
do you do a veggie juice then a fruit and so on throughout the day?
can I stick to 2 or 3 recipes at first till I get the hang of it? ( I have 5 that I got from Joe’s website.

do you drink your water between juices? or do you add it to your juice? (I love water by the way and have no trouble drinking 2 – 3 litres daily)

can I consume more than 5 juices a day if I am feeling hungry? and if so would it be better to do a veggie or a fruit juice?

ok I am done, for now lol. I look forward to your reply.

    Thank you,

    Judy

    • Celia Leigh says:

Judy, thanks so much for posting and please accept my apology for the delay in my reply.

Firstly congratulations on losing 100 lbs! That really is a fantastic result, and I do wish you all the best for the rest of your journey – you CAN DO IT!

      Your questions:
      1. In the morning, I personally normally had either Mean Green or root vegetable
, I felt they sustained me a lot longer and normally had fruit juice at the end of the day when I wasn’t really hungry.

      2. At the beginning I was doing 2 Green Juices, 2 Root ( eg carrot / beetroot / parsnip etc) then 1 Fruit. But my taste and cravings changed and I ended up doing all Green juices which definitely did sustain me better. I would suggest you don’t do any more than 1 complete fruit juice a day if you doing an extended fast.

      3. Yes I would recommend you keep it simple with recipes to begin with then you can swap and change down the line. Definitely ensure mean green is in that list! :)

      4. Yes I would drink water or warm water with lemon in between juices. Some people do add water to their juices, but I prefer my juices without.

      5. If your hungry then drink as much as you need! I think after the initial few days you’ll fall into a natural juice pattern – though do keep your consumption up and don’t let it fall below 2.5 liters. I would go for a green juice as its much more satiating than a fruit juice.

I do hope that helps and the information isn’t too late!

Again best of luck with your weight loss, you’ve come a great way so far, you should be very proud of what you have achieved!

I am interested in your latest weigh-in information. Will you be posting that soon?

  5. Lisa says:

    Hi Celia,

Having already done a 7 day juice fast last year I’m keen to do another, however 30 days seems a little ambitious for me…would you say it was hard to stick to after the first week?

    Thanks, Lisa

  6. Sam Mohammad says:

    Hello Celia,
Congrats on creating this website! It is a wonderful resource. I plan on going through with this fast tomorrow with my roommate and want to share this website with her.
I notice the “social sidebar” to share this has Facebook, Twitter, and G+1. However, there is no link to send this page as a simple email. If there is, I cannot find it.
I deleted my social site accounts last week as a “social fast” and found it so liberating, I dont plan on reactivating them.
Im curious to know if the absence of quick email link is your personal preference for your site, or is there other factors?

  7. andrew espinosa says:

Now I seeyour shopping list, how long did those vegies and fruits last you? What does the overall cost looklike for the 60days

  8. melissa says:

im on my first juice day! im 19 with a almost 2 year old and I thought hopfully this will help me get back to my normal weight. my husband is doing this with me also but I have to still cook for my baby. is awesome because she loves the juices I make too lol. how long did it take you to hit your goal? I am 213 pounds and I want to be at least 150

  9. shannon says:

Hi, i started today. 227lbs. Howdo you know your getting enough protein? How are your results

    • Shane Whaley says:

Celia got to Day 40 with no adverse issues around Protein. I have interviewed many people who have juiced for 60 days and none of them have suffered protein deficiency. There are lots of protein in the greens and you can add hemp protein powder (a non dairy based protein source) if you are concerned. Good Luck Shannon

  10. Jacqueline says:

Will I get the same result if I blend rather than juice?

    • Shane Whaley says:

No. Smoothies are great but they contain a lot more fiber than juices. This is a juice fast because the results in our experience have been more rapid. I do enjoy a smoothie in the morning and then juice during the day when I am fasting or post workout though, just my personal preference. When I juice fasted at Joe Cross’s camp which was juice only I lost more weight in those 5 days than when I juice and blend.

  11. hannah says:

i want to do this but im worried it will wreck my metabolism, can it?

  12. Grammie17 says:

Thank you for your site, it has been one of the most informed one that I have read. I am 67 years old and I have Osteoarthritis and my doctor is all for me going on juices to make me feel better. I have just gone on juices for 7 days now and feel great. Hope I can do it for 30 or more days with the help of you site. Mel

  13. Mary says:

So what do you eat after the 60 days are over and you want to keep the weight off.

    • Juicefast.com says:

Joe Cross went plant based for 90 days. We just interviewed him on Juicing Radio and asked him how he eats today. Would recommend you listening to it.
